DISASTER MOVIE AND PIC !

If you read yesterdays Blog you will know how I fell into the base of my bed ( a drop of 8"), and got stuck.
Here are two pics of the bed afterwards.

And for tonight's disaster, I made a movie !
It doesn't look as bad as it was.... but if you are in a wheelchair and hot fat and potatoes drop on your foot.... it's not good !! Fortunately I wasn't hurt , but do have greasy mess on the floor. I now have to avoid the mess as the wheels would perhaps slip if I went in it and if I did go through the mess there would be greasy tracks on the carpets.
So I will ask my night carer to clean it up at 10:00 when she arrives. It's now 7:30 ish !

"MULLED" GAMMON !

So it's Boxing day and, when I just viewed stats I note I have now had 17,070 hits !!!... and my first year of Blogging is not yet over! Yey!!!

I do hope that some of you are finding this funny/ interesting/ as a way of seeing what I'm up to and perhaps, even helpful ,if you too have MND.

Only one moan, I'll get it over with.
Did a sharp turn in wheelchair and caught hand in door... my thumb really hurts... NO I mean REALLY hurts !!!   Ibuprofen  and lots of sympathy please !!!

I've got the former . So its just the latter!!!!

My son in law, who cooked all day yesterday, is resting ,so I'm in the kitchen! Chrissie is being my sous chef... getting the right bits out of difficult cupboards , finding bits etc. and joggling baby Oliver !

Today its Gammon. I had planned to cook it in apple juice , on top of the hob. But the induction hob is having a few moments... it simply beeps and won't turn on... maybe the wrong sort of pan?? Or maybe it too, needs a rest!!

So Gammon in oven poaching... but meat thermometer doesn't seem to be reacting... do they work in steam????

Next issue.. couldnt find cloves... so I've added a sachet of mulled wine spice!!!   In a few minutes I plan to get it (Meat), out,  cover in mustard and treacle, then bake to give a crust.
But its not English mustard, couldn't find that, and it is sugar, not molasses! Ho Hum !!!!

Watch this space, we could be eating cheese and crackers tonight !!!

Well life with MND is full of adaptation,  but I didn't ever think it would prepare me for cooking in mulled wine spice!!!

BUT , I do have a secret supply of wine spice, so those cheese and bics will be much enhanced!!!

Especially for us select few with MND, Do enjoy your boxing day, and lets keep  adapting our lives to make the very best of each moment.

IT''S WEDNESDAY, CLEANER DUE TODAY

I woke at 4:00 this morning. I tossed and turned and eventually got up at 5:15 to make a cup of tea. This was no easy decision.
Remember I have to put on foot support, move to the bottom of the bed, balance, move into chair, unplug , turn it.. go to loo (inevitably when you wake up), get to kitchen. Stop chair, stand, balance, fill kettle, not too full  !!, as then its too heavy, put on, reach for tea bag, fill cup, back to chair, move over kitchen, get in position to open fridge for milk, which requires I turn chair around, Milk in... carry hot tea carefully to bed room, pop on window sill as I balance ...moving along the cup with free hand. Tentatively get cup on bedside table. Drink tea. Watch sky get brighter, fall asleep at 6:30.. wake with alarm at 8:45.

Same process again, but this time I put coffee in cup!! and don't go back to bed.
I watch the cows in the field, and eventually get cereal, eat some of it and manage to load dishwasher. ..... Four trips to utility room, each involving a trip to turn in the hall, the right angle turn to the utility room cant be manoeuvred in one. Each piece placed involving a balancing act....

Shower time. Got into robe and was just about to turn tap on when I realised I was in the wrong chair! In swapping chairs I got them totally stuck together, It took about 10 mins to do the transfer!!

Shower, hair wash. Clean clothes. Getting clothes out isn't easy, as yet again I have to balance, whilst reaching for a jumper I have to catch myself on the wardrobe door , to prevent a fall, but it swings... I thankfully land on the chair!!!!!!

Dressed, another cup of coffee.. same process.

I rang David re car. He answered (YEY! ???) said be was getting in touch with man at Motability. He would ring back.
Rang Hosp transport to arrange transport for Thurs next week as I'm have a 24 hr ECG fitted.

I rang David, he had had a missed call from Motability, would ring them back then get in touch with me.

NO CALL!!

And now we get to 12:30. Tracy, cleaner arrives.
1:00 Tesco man arrives. As he picked up the 5litre bag of cat litter it split.. It bounced all over the kitchen.. into every orifice!! He got broom and was sweeping up when Tracy joined in with a dustpan and brush.. this caused further eddies of cat litter... what a mess!!! But the funniest bit of the day !!

Tracy did her stuff and as she was about to go the MNDA woman , Carol, rang back. She seems to be a terrier.. and is taking over sorting this for me. Thank goodness, I so need an advocate.

I then went to feed Meggie. I couldn't find her food tray. Eventually I saw it had been moved to the utility room... WHY??

It took some minutes to pick the bowls up, and I spilled her water on the floor and down my clean ( this morning ),  trousers!!!!  V V upsetting

This evening I have eaten. A frozen asparagus risotto, to which I added some salmon.

When I went to turn bedroom light on and close curtains, I saw my water mug by my bed. Why did Tracy move tea mug and not water mug??? WHY ???

Im feeling, sadly,  stressed...

BUT tomorrow my easel and art stuff arrives,...... its been in store.

Normality ??? Hope so.

WHAT A TWERP ! !

Ok to get the significance of the title over... I'm a twerp because I turned up at hospital, neurology department, 24 hrs early!!

In order to keep appointment now I have had to change Tesco-mans arrival, change the time when I am meeting Liz, to peruse curtains, and most importantly will have to manage on my own , as today John was pushing me.  So watch this space for more porter related incidents... or keep your fingers crossed for me, that all goes well!

Talking of going well a few splendid things today. Sue and Pip called in with Fish and chips, yum, en route to St Neots. Sue and I taught together in Little Paxton in 1974. So lovely to spend even a short time with them,,,,, and they brought fresh picked dahlias and Thornton's chocs! YEY!

The next news was that the part for my car has arrived from Italy, just prior to the factory closing for a month!!! How cross would I be had this happened? BUT all is well. I will have it all fitted next Monday, collecting on WED. Think I aught to invest in P signs... I will be driving from wheelchair and using my hands only. How tricky will this be!!
But Im sure I'll eventually manage.
The issue I have is that I need to be confident enough to drive to Northampton when baby Scannell arrives. Due Sept 6th... and with the house move planned for Aug 30th I'm up to my ears, when will I get motorway practice time? But Nothing will keep me from seeing my new grandchild when s/he is new and lovely and wrinkly!

Next good news was that my sofa can be delivered on Aug 24th. The carpets will be down then, and I shall organise dishwasher and freezer to arrive that day too.

So all going well, I do have an A4twitter .com sheet of people to ring/contact though... the usual stuff like council tax,  gas and electricity etc... telephone in and running and internet set up for 22nd... so all going well.

I do need rest and to keep calm though as anxiety of all this and MND causes my heart to race sometimes, and its very frightening.

Lots of people are helping pack and move stuff, I'm so grateful.

TODAY, TONIGHT, TOMORROW

Today I have been in w.chair to rest as much as possible for an outing. I greeted Tesco-man, then showered then man with new phone , then man with another package.. all these on-line visits blur!! Also contacted Innvacare and OT,re possibilities of driving into wet room with chair... Silly me an outdoor/ indoor chair must be able to go out in rain!!! thus it is ok to do drive into bathroom.. Sorted! Yey! Also did tests for myself on door widths with my chair at the moment, and allowing for extra width of new chair... seems a 33" door will be Ok.
Pat and Steph arrived and we had cuppa then champagne, and decided on a taxi to Hebden.  Why? well much wine ensued!!!
Taxi to Hebden then a great meal at Moyles.. thank you.

Tomorrow I have finance man from Calderdale visiting, then on to wheel chair assessment, then Richard re Bungalow,... then a relaxing evening.... plus many other calls in between...

MND is so tiring. I should be saving my energy for lovely things... but it's just not possible at the moment. I feel that if I'm not pro-active things will take too long to be in place... thank you to friends who now help me out of my home  ie up the steps...... I couldn't do without you.

You know with MND, almost every day is like a Hard Days Night... but we keep going... HUGS x
